ERATO (AIR-uh-toh) is Georgia Tech’s journal for arts and literature. We publish multimedia artwork and creative writing submitted by students and faculty.
In addition to our annual printed magazine, we occasionally publish short, themed zines. Throughout the year, we sponsor open-mic events, art galleries, and art workshops. We also feature campus artists and writers on our social media and at events.
Our biggest event is ERATOBER, when we release themes throughout October for students and faculty to submit their work for us to feature. At the end of the month, we host an open-mic event and showcase the submissions.
The ERATO staff is responsible for reviewing submissions, designing magazine layouts, and organizing events to promote art and writing on campus. Any member of the Tech community is welcome to join the staff!
History:
We were founded in 1969 and published our first black-and-white issue in May of that year. This makes us Georgia Tech’s first arts- and literature-focused student media magazine.
Behind the Name: A Muse and an Acronym
Our name has two origins:
Erato is one of the nine muses of the arts in Greek mythology, representing lyrical poetry.
ERATO also stands for the Engineer’s Review and Technical Ontology. (We’ll stick with the shortened version.)
Interested in joining Erato?
We welcome new staff members at any time, regardless of experience. Access or proficiency with Adobe products is not required.
We hold weekly meetings on Wednesdays at 5-6 pm in the Student Media Lounge (Room 2150 in the Student Center).
